Pakistan won the toss and elected to bat first. They got off to a steady start with the opening pair of Imam-ul-Haq and Fakhar Zaman putting on a 50-run partnership. However, Fakhar Zaman was dismissed soon after for 20 runs. Babar Azam then came to the crease and started to build a partnership with Imam-ul-Haq.
Imam-ul-Haq was looking good before he was caught behind off the bowling of Trent Boult for 33 runs. Pakistan then lost a few quick wickets, including that of Babar Azam for 25 runs. They were struggling at 105-5 at one stage.
However, Mohammad Rizwan and Shadab Khan played some aggressive cricket to take Pakistan to a respectable total. Rizwan scored a brilliant century, scoring 104 runs off 102 balls, while Shadab Khan scored 31 runs off 31 balls. Pakistan finished their innings on 279-8 in 50 overs.
In response, New Zealand got off to a shaky start, losing their opener Martin Guptill early in the innings. However, skipper Tom Latham and Devon Conway steadied the ship and put on a partnership of 66 runs. Conway was dismissed for 31 runs, but Latham continued to bat well and scored a half-century.
New Zealand lost a few wickets in quick succession, but Latham and Jimmy Neesham started to build a partnership. Latham was eventually dismissed for 73 runs, but Neesham continued to play aggressively and scored a quickfire 62 runs off just 33 balls. However, New Zealand fell short of the target and were bowled out for 262 runs in 47.2 overs.
Pakistan won the match by 17 runs and took the series 2-1. Mohammad Rizwan was awarded the Player of the Match for his brilliant century, while Babar Azam was named the Player of the Series for his consistent performance throughout the series.
