Minnesota Timberwolves star Anthony Edwards has been cited for third-degree assault following an alleged postgame incident. The incident reportedly occurred on April 13, 2023, outside a downtown Minneapolis nightclub.
According to a police report, Edwards was leaving the nightclub with some friends when he got into a verbal altercation with a group of individuals. The altercation escalated and became physical, with Edwards allegedly punching one of the individuals in the face multiple times.
The victim was transported to a nearby hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Edwards, who is only 22 years old, was cited for third-degree assault and released pending further investigation.
The Minnesota Timberwolves issued a statement in response to the incident, saying they were aware of the situation and would cooperate with the authorities in their investigation. The statement also emphasized that the team takes all allegations of violence seriously and that they will not tolerate any such behavior from their players.
This is not the first time Edwards has been in the headlines for off-court incidents. In October 2022, he was arrested for driving under the influence and received a one-game suspension from the Timberwolves.
