Island Peak, located in Everest Region, is a popular mountain renowned for offering magnificent views. It is also known as Imja Tse and stands at an elevation of 6189 m. The peak is relatively easy to climb compared to other peaks of the Everest Region. However, you must be skilled in the technical aspects required for climbing and the usage of gears and equipment. The journey starts with a scenic and exhilarating flight from Kathmandu to Lukla. Initially, you will follow the trek routes of Everest Base Camp Trek and trek for around 7 to 8 hours a day. It takes you to scenic places like Lukla, Phakding, Namche Bazaar, Tengboche, and Dingboche, where you will get numerous chances for cultural exploration and sightseeing. The first acclimatization day is at the picturesque Namche Bazaar, where you can explore the nearby scenic places.
You will trek to Island Peak Base Camp (5087 m) from Dingboche, and along the trail, you can see the beautiful views of Lhotse, Nuptse, and Island Peak. At base camp you will stay for the first time in a tent. The next day, you will spend acclimatizing to adapt to the high altitude. On this day you can explore the base camp area and also be prepared for climbing Island Peak.
The day of the climb starts early so that you can make it to the summit before noon.
