History
Guru Tegh Bahadur, the 9th Sikh Guru, and Mata Gujri only had one child, Guru Gobind Singh Ji. He was born to a Sodhi Khatri family in Patna, Bihar, under the name Gobind Rai.
When he was only nine years old, Aurangzeb executed his parent, Guru Tegh Bahadur, for denying to switch to Islam.
Guru Gobind Ji succeeded his father as the savior of the Sikhs and carried on the fight against the injustices committed against his community by the Mughals after his father’s passing.
Guru Gobind Ji inspired the Sikhs by setting a good example, and his doctrine quickly became historically significant to the Sikh lifestyle.
After his death, as well as the nine incursions of Punjab, he was willing to take responsibility for instituting the Khalsa, which significantly contributed to the safety of the Sikhs.

Guru Gobind Singh Ji established the Khalsa’s Five K’s tradition in 1699. These five items are Kesh, uncut hair; Kangha, a wooden comb; Kara, a wristband made of iron or steel; Kripan, a sword or dagger; and Kacchera, short breeches.
Guru Gobind Singh Ji designated the Guru Granth Sahib as the last Sikh Guru in 1708, shortly before his passing.
