In recent years, WhatsApp has become one of the most popular messaging platforms in the world, with over 2 billion active users. However, as the app’s popularity has grown, so too have the number of scams that target its users. One of the latest scams making the rounds involves receiving calls from international numbers.
The scam works like this: You receive a call from an international number, and when you answer, the person on the other end hangs up immediately. If you try to call the number back, you may be connected to a premium rate service, which will charge you exorbitant fees for the call.
The scammers may also use this tactic to try to obtain your personal information. They may call you back repeatedly, hoping that you will answer and reveal sensitive information such as your name, address, or credit card details.
If you receive a call from an international number and the caller hangs up immediately, the first thing you should do is not call the number back. If you do call back and are connected to a premium rate service, hang up immediately and check your phone bill to see if you have been charged for the call.
If you continue to receive calls from the same number, you can block it using WhatsApp’s built-in blocking feature. To do this, simply tap on the phone number in your call log and select “Block.”
It’s important to note that this is just one of many scams that target WhatsApp users. To stay safe, always be cautious when receiving calls or messages from unknown numbers, and never give out personal information unless you are sure of the person’s identity. If you are unsure, it’s always better to err on the side of caution and not respond.
