Len Goodman, the popular judge of the hit television show “Dancing With the Stars,” has died at the age of 78. His death was confirmed by his family in a statement on Sunday.
Goodman had been a judge on the show since its inception in 2005 and was known for his straight-talking critiques and charming British accent. His absence from the show in recent years had been due to health issues.
Born in London in 1944, Goodman began his dance career at the age of 19, winning numerous championships in various styles of ballroom dancing. He later became a well-respected dance teacher and judge, both in the UK and internationally.
Goodman was also a popular television personality in the UK, hosting shows such as “Len Goodman’s Partners in Rhyme” and “Holiday of My Lifetime.”
Tributes to Goodman have poured in from fans and colleagues in the entertainment industry. Fellow “Dancing With the Stars” judge Carrie Ann Inaba tweeted, “I’m heartbroken. Len was a dear friend and a true legend in the world of dance. He will be missed by so many.”
Goodman is survived by his wife, Sue, and their children, James and Sarah.
